The Next Generation of Cooling Refrigerants. Stored in your air conditioner’s coils, refrigerants are liquids that cool and dehumidify your air. If we didn’t have refrigerants, we wouldn’t have air conditioning. For a long time, the most common AC refrigerant was R-22 (Freon), but in 2012 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mandated the phase-out of R-22 through the Clean Air Act. By 2020, it will be illegal to produce R-22 due to its destructive impact to the environment. Introducing R-410A To lessen environmental impacts, all Lennox® products are now compatible with the new R-410A AC refrigerant. R-410A is EPA-recognized and contains no chlorine, so it’s ozone-friendly. You can feel great about using this refrigerant in Wharton because it’ll help make your AC work efficiently, reliably and quietly, and provide the same cool comfort in the warmer months. Additional Considerations If your AC or heat pump was made before 2010, it may not be R-410A-compatible. You probably should investigate upgrading your cooling system before R-22 is completely phased out. The old refrigerant will become scarce in the next few years, costing you more to use your system effectively. The Lennox products we offer at Faust Air Conditioning and Heating work with R-410A, so you can rest assured we have an AC or heat pump that better meets your needs. Additionally, refrain from using”alternate refrigerants that claim to work in R-22 systems. These include R-407C, R-438A and R-422, all of which can actually compromise your system’s performance.
